Update: What To Buy/Not Buy Organic

Have you heard of the Clean 15 and the Dirty Dozen?  The Clean 15 is a list released each year of the 15 produce items that have the fewest amount of pesticides/chemicals…and the Dirty Dozen are the 12 with the most.

You certainly won’t hurt anything (except your wallet) by buying EVERYTHING organic, but if you want to know the most crucial items to buy organic and what you can skip, here ya go….

This year’s Dirty Dozen:

  • Apples
  • Strawberries
  • Grapes
  • Celery
  • Peaches
  • Spinach
  • Sweet bell peppers
  • Nectarines (imported)
  • Cucumbers
  • Potatoes
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Hot peppers

This year’s Clean 15:

  • Corn
  • Onions
  • Pineapple
  • Avocados
  • Cabbage
  • Sweet peas (frozen, since they’re more readily available)
  • Papayas
  • Mangoes
  • Asparagus
  • Eggplant
  • Kiwi
  • Grapefruit
  • Cantaloupe
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Mushrooms
