Cake Mix Conspiracy
Duncan Hines still comes in 18.25 ounce packages, but Pillsbury and Betty Crocker have each shrunk their mixes to 12.25 ounce amounts. They say a cake will bake the same with the smaller mix in a 13×9 pan, but I don’t know how it could… baking is such an exact science (or that’s my opinion at least as someone who doesn’t bake much/ever).
Pillsbury, Betty, and other companies say they’re doing this because their costs have gone up… and their research shows people would rather keep the same price and lose a little bit of product than pay more for the same amount.
What about you?
POLL: Would you rather companies keep prices the same and reduce the amount of product you get… or give you the same amount but raise the price?
Same deal with ice cream. Blue Bell is almost the only company that still sells their ice cream by the half gallon. I don’t like the trend. Instead of shrinking package sizes, I wish companies would offer bigger/economy sizes with a cheaper unit price.
